My name is Laurie Majka (pronounced Mika)

I believe if you don’t follow your heart, no one else will.  I was inspired to start painting when I got an idea while on a walk in December 2012…

First, you should know that I am not a trained artist.  In the fall of 2011 I took one 12 week acrylic painting class and then I didn’t pick up a paint brush for over a year!  My painting journey began when I went to see an Energy Healer (Dede Hart) in December 2012 to help me through the grieving process of losing my dear friend Mark Abrahamian.  I recorded the session with Dede and would listen to it when I went on my daily walks.  I received messages through Dede that told me that my heart wanted me to:  “Act on my heart’s desires”, “Allow myself to be loved” to “Hold the space for the love”, that “I am nothing but pure love”.  While she spoke those words, I saw (in my mind) a heart flying into “the light” with trailers or banners attached to it, holding its’ Soul Whispers.  I felt very compelled to paint this picture and spent 2 days creating it January 2013.  When I finished the paining, I realized that all of our Hearts hold messages, some are very positive and some are ideas that we should let go of.  Our Hearts hold our deepest desires, I believe they are Soul Whispers. After I created this painting I kept getting more and more ideas with flying Hearts to paint, so I decided to paint 40 paintings in 40 days.  I don’t know why I picked 40–50 seemed like too many and 30 didn’t seem like enough.  I finished the 40th and last painting on February 23, 2013–ironically this was Mark-my friend who had died-birthday!  Knowing that Mark was helping me from the other side, I decided to create this web site complete with a portfolio and a blog.

I really have a passion for painting these flying Hearts. I find inspiration in so many places!  In conversations, in song lyrics, in books and on Super Soul Sundays…inspiration is everywhere!!  When I paint, time ceases to exist.  I try to paint at least 4-12 Original paintings a month.  Lately my greatest pleasure has been in creating Original paintings for people in my life that I care about.  It is funny how a message personally created for one person can speak to many–thanks to generous sharing the Soul Whispers reach more than 500,000 people a month (and growing).

I want you to know that you are capable of creating ANYTHING you want in your life! Thank you for spending a few minutes with me!  I hope my Artwork inspires you to hear the Whispers from your Soul…xo Laurie

The painting that started it all!!  “I am Love”

Don’t quit your day job—yet….

I am the type of person who ALWAYS needs a project!  I have more energy than I have time.  I like to get my hands dirty in construction projects, there is something so satisfying in taking something unfinished and making it beautiful.  I even bought a foreclosure house in 2009 and flipped it! So now instead of big projects, I prefer to get my hands dirty painting and creating inspirational art.  I literally get lost in time creating a painting, and a few hours seem like minutes.

My typical day includes in no particular order (but is not limited to)…

  • I live to hike!  I love it so much that I recently moved to Arizona so I can be outside, every day, year round with my dog Storm. I’ve been walking-for exercise- for many, many years–it is my own form of meditation, inspiration and therapy.  I hike almost everyday and I completed a 17 mile Grand Canyon hike in September 2016-truly a bucket list item.  My very favorite hiking places have been Zion National Park in Utah, Muir Woods National Park in San Francisco, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Pictured Lakes National Park in The Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Black Mountain (1400 ft in 1.5 miles) in Cave Creek AZ is my go to hike several times a week.
  • Diet Mountain Dew…I am pretty much addicted at this point and have been for 25 + years–yes it’s been around that long!
  • Chocolate, yep every day–I have to do the hiking so I can have the chocolate (I really do have a healthy diet otherwise and I am eating a salad as we speak).
  • Many days I will create a painting.  Currently I am painting about 1-3 per week depending on my work/travel schedule.  I have been creating 100 per year in each of the last 3 years.  I usually start sometime after dinner and I can work well into the night.  I get 5-7  hours of sleep, rarely more, sometimes less.
  • Working my day job.  I’m in sales and have a demanding job that requires me to travel 1-2 times a week–talk about hard to fit everything in! I’ve been on 75+ planes so far in 2016.
  • Spending time with my Family and friends.  Friendships are the icing on the cake of life and I am so blessed to have an abundance!
  • I am also very passionate about music and spend a fair amount of listening to it and attending concerts.  I am especially attracted to the lyrics and the guitars.

Painting with Great Grandma

On the morning I found out my dear friend Mark had died–but before I heard the news–I was drying my hair and felt very “compelled” to put my Great-Grandmother’s ring on.  I actually turned the hair dryer off, found and put the ring on, then continued drying my hair.  The unusual thing is that in the 10 years that she had been gone, I had never worn her ring…I had just kept it in a drawer.  That morning I felt like she was letting me know she was there for me on that very difficult day.  My Grandmother Gladys was very artistic.  She wrote and published a book of poems and she started painting in her 40’s–just like me!  We are kindred spirits.  When I paint I love to feel like she is with me by wearing her pearl ring.  I am sure many of you have had similar experiences, I would love to hear about them!

  4. Laurie, thank you, for the beautiful pictures and sharing your story. They touch my heart and soul. My grandson, Journey, died Sept. 8, 2013, in a horrible, tragic accident. He was 3 years old and lived, with me, from birth. He was “my world”. As I travel, through this painful journey, of grief I constantly look, for positive ways, in which to remember him. Your hearts touch me, with wonderful memories of Journey. I’m so sorry, for your loss of your friend. Thank you, for this and Bless you. [[Hugs]]

  6. Hi Laurie, Thanks so much for allowing me to get to know you the real you. It’s not often in this day in age that we allow much in let alone follow the whispers of our soul. I had tried to get a group going on facebook that was called I Believe that never really got off the ground. It was to share the miracles we experience in life wether big or small. I will check back from time to time to see what is new.

    • Thank you Terri for your kind comments–glad you are here!! xo Laurie

  7. I just signed up for your blog today, and sadly read that Fish Guy died today. Perhaps you will paint a flying heart for him?

    • Hi Jane..thank you for signing up–I’m happy you are here. Actually that was 2 yrs ago–thank you for the reminder! Loved that guy–I did paint a pic of him-perhaps I’ll post it. Have an awesome weekend!! xo Laurie

  8. Hi Laurie! I enjoyed reading about you and am very much enjoying receiving your daily heart art. I happened upon your blog and now I start my day with your posts. What you paint and the message that’s attached, I find is very clear and direct but so deep and thought provoking all at once. Tomorrow, I turn 41 and I just started painting with acrylics about 3 months ago. Right now when I think of painting … It’s crystals, birds, flowers and lakes most of the time. Most thoughts are not yet put to canvas since I’m truly a beginner, but I’m loving this feeling of creativity pushing it’s way to the surface of my being. Anyways, I am so happy to have found your blog and look forward to viewing and reading what’s to come. Hope you have a wonderful day 😉

    • Hi Heidi,

Thank you so much for sending me such a thoughtful message. Happy belated birthday to you! Just like you, I began painting in my 40’s. I think it imperative to have a creative outlet and I am glad that you found one. The most important thing is to tell yourself that you ARE an artist and to see yourself as one–even though it probably doesn’t’ feel like you are yet. So glad to have you here…xo Laurie

  9. My artistic abilities were made known to me at the age of 50! Good things come slowly! When my husband was alive, he used to whistle Indian music tunes to me while I struggled with painting faces of Indians. It helped me to win a first prize for my entry in a contest. I so enjoy your artwork and your daily messages. We all need to have soul enlightenment and you are helping us do that with your love and devotion. Keep on going. Blessings, Irene

    • Hi Irene,

Thank you for sharing your story with me. What a blessing your husband was in helping to inspire you, and I’m sure his inspiration is with you daily! I’m so glad the Soul Whispers enlighten your Soul–that is my greatest aspiration. So glad you are here…xo Laurie

  10. fascinating how the web of life draws us into our hearts and inspires us through what feels positive or painful … i too love to hike and walk meditatively while listening to music that feels heart centered (not necessarily spiritual) but I experience many musical artists sharing their channeling of heart centered soul inspired sound as uplifting and inspirational. i too had a close companion die and that difficult yet sacred experience created an opening I can’t quite explain….all I know is our hearts are all inextricably connected and Love is the glue! Thank you for sharing your heart’s wisdom and expression ….

    • Oh Laura, I am so sorry for your loss–I feel it at a heart level. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I could not agree more and I think your glue comment just inspired a painting idea! So glad you are here…xo Laurie
